Omor Bros. Helps Ontario’s biggest power company with DevSecOps

Background:

Hydro One is a large energy transmission company that handles 26% of transmission for Ontario. The company was upgrading their network management system and wanted to use the most secure cloud-based applications. However, Hydro One needed more expertise in this within their IT group. They reached out to Omor Bros, a DevSecOps consulting agency, for help.

Challenge:

Hydro One needed to implement a cloud-based application for their network management system upgrade and needed help with their security and DevOps pipeline (DevSecOps pipeline). They also needed training for their IT group in cloud-based applications such as Docker and Kubernetes.

Solution:

Omor Bros. provided Hydro One with training for their IT group in cloud-based applications, specifically Docker and Kubernetes. The team also conducted design work and design reviews for the cloud-based application and built it using technologies such as Azure, Docker and Kubernetes. They also helped Hydro One with their DevSecOps pipeline by implementing security best practices and tools such as GitLab and Jenkins. To ensure the quality of the application, the team also provided testing by writing test cases for the applications they built using tools such as Java, Spring Boot and JUnit. Our agency has worked with Hydro One on multiple projects was executed one focused on Software design in 2019, and another focused on Software implementation in 2021-2022.

Results:

Omor Bros. successfully delivered the products that Hydro One asked for, including 3 adapters. The implementation of these cloud-based applications is a significant step for Hydro One, as it will help them in updating a piece of software they use to manage the Ontario electrical network.
