Elevating Black Scientists in Canada with the Canadian Black Scientists Network
Background:
Despite the growing diversity in Canada, the field of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEMM) remains largely white and male-dominated. The Canadian Black Scientists Network (CBSN) was created to address this issue by elevating, making visible, celebrating, and connecting Black Canadians in STEMM across sectors.
Challenge:
The CBSN needed to establish a strong online presence to reach and connect with Black scientists and allies across Canada. They also needed to develop a branding strategy that accurately reflected their mission and values.
Solution:
The CBSN partnered with Omor Bros for branding and web development to create a visually striking and user-friendly website that highlighted their mission, events, resources, and community. The website was designed to be easily navigable and accessible for users of all abilities.
Highlights of the website include:
- Membership platform for 500+ users
- Analytics Tracking to help improve traffic
- Full CMS (content management system) with allows CBSN update any part of the website instantly
Branding Strategy:
The agency also worked with the CBSN to develop a branding strategy that accurately reflected their mission and values. This included creating a logo, color scheme, and messaging that resonated with the CBSN’s target audience.
Results:
The new website and branding strategy have helped the CBSN establish a strong online presence and reach a wider audience. The website has been well-received by the community and has become a valuable resource for Black scientists and allies across Canada. The CBSN has also seen an increase in engagement and membership since the launch of the new website.
In addition, the CBSN has been able to connect and collaborate with a wider range of organizations and individuals in STEMM. This has led to new opportunities and partnerships for the CBSN and its members.
The CBSN also continues to work with the agency for consulting and maintenance work to keep their website up-to-date and ensure it continues to serve the needs of their community.
Conclusion:
The Canadian Black Scientists Network (CBSN) has been able to establish a strong online presence and connect with a wider audience, thanks to a well-designed website and a branding strategy that accurately reflects their mission and values. The CBSN continues to work with the agency for consulting and maintenance work to ensure the website remains a valuable resource for the community.
